Stark United Way announces community investment, lauds volunteers

United Way of Greater Stark County


CANTON – United Way of Greater Stark County recently recognized its community volunteers and announced an investment of $5,364,430 into the community from April 2021 to March 2022.


Dave and Laura Grabowsky, 2021-2022 campaign co-chairs, this week announced the campaign raised $5,674,297. They also presented the agency's workplace award recipients.

Retired Stark County Family Court Judge Michael L. Howard, chair of United Way’s board of directors, also recognized the following volunteer award recipients:

• Taylor Schauer, executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Schauer Group, was the recipient of the DeHoff Emerging Philanthropist Award. He was nominated by fellow board member Kevin Smith, who said he chose Schauer because of his "complete commitment" to the community.


Betty Smith, Phil Francis, and Chris Goff received the Gold Key Service Awards for their work and volunteerism.

• Derek Gordon said he nominated Smith, the founder of EN-RICH-MENT, because of that program's commitment to providing music education for inner city youth and because, "She doesn't take no for answer in terms of supporting the cause."
